From Upper Thomson station, the Thomson-East Coast Line runs south through Caldecott, Stevens, Napier and Orchard Boulevard to Orchard, then on through Great World and Outram Park to Maxwell, Shenton Way and Marina Bay. For a household that works in the city centre, the line means a direct journey from a station a few minutes’ walk from home.
North of Upper Thomson, the line runs to Bright Hill, Mayflower and Springleaf and on to Woodlands, where it connects with the North-South Line.

The Circle Line from Marymount runs west through Caldecott, Botanic Gardens and Holland Village towards HarbourFront, and east to Bishan, where it meets the North-South Line. Caldecott is the station where the Circle Line and the Thomson-East Coast Line meet, so the two lines together give several routes across the island without a long walk to the first station.
The MRT and transport guide sets out the routes station by station.

Counting Bright Hill, which lies about 1.0 kilometre from the site, three stations are within a kilometre: Upper Thomson at about 260 metres, Marymount at about 630 metres and Bright Hill at about 1.0 kilometre. Upper Thomson and Bright Hill are both on the Thomson-East Coast Line, so the choice between them is a matter of which entrance is nearer the day’s route, while Marymount adds the Circle Line.
Station distances are measured to a named exit, and the exit used for a journey changes the walk. The location page gives each exit separately.
Planning Journeys from Artisan 8
For a journey to work or school, the useful measure is door-to-door time on a typical day, which depends on the exit, the platform and the time of travel. Anyone weighing a particular route can walk it on a first visit to the area and time it, which is the surest way to know what the journey feels like.
